New ACPA Supporter: Clear Seas Centre for Responsible Marine Shipping

June 16, 2022

We are pleased to introduce ACPA’s newest Supporter, Clear Seas for Responsible Marine Shipping!

Clear Seas is a Canadian not-for-profit research centre providing impartial information on marine shipping to policy makers and the public. Its mandate is to initiate and interpret research, incorporating Traditional Knowledge where appropriate, and analyzing policies, identifying best practices, and sharing information to enable dialogue and guide effective decision-making.

It is an important source on the human, environmental and economic impacts of marine shipping. That includes practices on climate change and decarbonization, assessing shipping risk and marine accidents and incidents, understanding impacts on Indigenous and coastal communities, and more.

Clear Seas works with Indigenous communities to increase their participation in the ocean economy. This includes an internship program that provides opportunities for young Indigenous people to work on topics of interest to their communities. Our Career Pivot Program provides employment opportunities for Indigenous People of all ages. “Clear Seas welcomes working with Canada’s Port Authorities to build a safer, sustainable and inclusive marine shipping industry,” says Paul Blomerus, Executive Director, Clear Seas.
