The Association of Canadian Port Authorities applauds the Government of Ontario and Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation, for stepping forward to develop and release the much-anticipated Ontario Marine Strategy, The Future of the Great Lakes Economy: Ontario’s Marine Transportation Strategy. This strategy is remarkable for recognizing the current and future value of the sector and laying down markers to grow the sector and fully integrate it into Ontario’s economy.
Ontario’s ports play a key role as intermodal interface and as hubs for the energy transition. The Association of Canadian Port Authorities is pleased that industry input on the value of the marine system to sustainability, intermodal supply chain fluidity and optimized infrastructure was heard and is keen to work with the government on implementation and program development.
The strategy’s four pillars will support the outcomes of overall supply chain resilience, sustainability and provincial economic success. It can support intermodal shift, thereby significantly reducing the carbon emissions, noise and congestion for every tonne of cargo moved on Ontario’s highways and leveraging the full potential of the marine sector.
