ACPA Welcomes the Speech from the Throne’s Pledge to Build a Resilient Economy

The Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA) was pleased to hear Governor General Mary Simon present the Prime Minister’s vision for a resilient economy for Canada in today’s Speech from the Throne

November 23, 2021

We look forward to collaborating with the government on a resilient, sustainable, and competitive economy for Canada. Our 17 port authorities, properly empowered with the right tools, can be central to facilitating the recovery and enhancing our supply chain security. The COVID-19 recovery presents a unique opportunity to catapult Canada into the position of global leader in sustainable and resilient ports and supply chains.

Building the trade-enabling port infrastructure needed for net-zero shipping will require financial flexibility through accelerated letters patent and increased borrowing limits, expanded port eligibility to the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and enhanced National Trade Corridor Funding.

With this support and collaboration from the government, port authorities can not only continue to help our country emerge from the pandemic, but prosper for the benefit of all Canadians.

Acting President
